Evelyn J. Horn, 97, Pittsville, passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards.
A memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pittsville. A luncheon will follow at the Pittsville Community Center. Windshield Wipers
Evelyn was born on May 19, 1925 in Wisconsin Rapids to the parents of Edward and Blanch (Strope) Christensen. She attended local schools and then graduated from Pittsville high school 1942. She then attended nursing school at UW Madison and finished her nursing education in Marshfield.
She was married to Carl R. Horn on August 19, 1944. They were married for 71 years until his passing in 2016.
After marriage, Evelyn and her husband worked the family farm in Vesper. In 1971 she became the first woman elected to the Pittsville school board and served through 1986. In the meantime, she worked the family farm until her sons took over operations in the early 80’s. She then worked at Bethel Nursing home until her retirement at the age of 72. Throughout the years, she remained very active with duties at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children Carl (Virginia) Horn Jr. of Wisconsin Rapids, Mark Horn and Kevin Horn, both of Vesper. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Cassandra and Nick Horn; and her sister Carol Michalik (Allen) of O’Fallon, MO. and sister-in-law Ann Christensen.
She was predeceased by her husband Carl, brother Edward James Jr. and sister Betty Tubbs.
The family would like thank the staff at Edgewater Haven and Ministry Home Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care of mom.
