(May 15, 2023) It’s been a wild 12 hours for the mid-island Stop & Shop. A compressor malfunction late Sunday night shut down the entire store's refrigeration capabilities, forcing workers to pull all perishables like produce, meat, deli items, dairy and frozen foods from the shelves and store them in refrigeration trailers outside.

The refrigeration issue has been resolved, she said mid-morning Monday, and now store workers and reinforcements from off-island stores are restocking the shelves.

“It’s going to be a little rough (for customers) to shop at any of the perishable departments (today), but we are working on it,” she said at noon Monday.

“We have almost our whole dairy department back up and running and we are working on meat and deli right now.”
